Here’s the short of it:
- The iPhone is selling better than Blackberry (allegedly its primary competitor)
- Apple is now the worlds third-largest cellphone maker (trailing only Nokia and Samsung)
- Apple quarterly results analysis via Daring Fireball.
Who would think you could get to that scale – having never built a cell phone till a skant 15 months previously? At 10 million units sold in 2008, maybe this is just a fad.
My prediction remains the same: Apple will take over the cell phone market the way it did with the mp3 player market (80% of all mp3 players are iPods).

The only way that my next phone will be an iPhone is if they get away from the single-carrier system. AT&T may have “more bars”, but they also have 50% dropped calls whenever I am on their network and that is unacceptable. I am not paying $600-$800 for a phone that I have to hack onto some other carrier.
From my understanding, they have an exclusive contract with AT&T for another 2 years at least. Apple needs to get their heads out of their asses and sell this unlocked and work with the other 3G carriers to make it work easily.
I don’t know, P. I’ve heard some cool things about the Android. I would appreciate some competition for the iPhone.
Competition makes everything better and more affordable.
I will wait until AT$T loses it gripe on the iPhone before I would consider buying the the ubercool phone…
I would prefer to NOT buy and then have to unlock the iPhone…why not sell it unlock like what Palm is doing with the Centro…
