Quote of the Day

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

— Hunter S. Thompson

Thinking better

DAGQuote had a good reminder from Albert Einstein: “The significant problems we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.”

If your problems are not going away, try upping the quality of thinking. It is a bitter pill for some to swallow, but you gotta try something new. Try hiring a coach, bringing in a consultant, or trying something you never had the guts to try before.

Often the problems are self inflicted, but then they may have been the right decisions at the time. Times change, people grow, and that’s OK. Recognize that while you may have contributed to the problems, you can also be part of the solution.

Go try something different, institute a higher level of thinking, and have the courage to embrace the change.

Quote: Change Amid Order

I ran across this quote a while back and thought it fit well with the overall theme of the site.  I do actually advocate making changes carefully and thoughtfully in all situations (despite what others may believe). The reason I tend to speak so forcefully for change is really rather simple … to counter the exceptionally stubborn don’t-upset-the-status-quo folks. Anyway, the quote:

“The art of progress is to preserve order amid change, and to preserve change amid order.”

- Alfred North Whitehead
