Without Change There Is No Innovation

C. William Pollard (twice the CEO of ServiceMaster) once said in his book, The Soul of the Firm, that:

Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow.

On further research, I found a number of related quotes in that book that I also quite liked:

Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.

It is the responsibility of leadership to provide opportunity, and the responsibility of individuals to contribute.

Too often new ideas are studied and analyzed until they are suffocated.

Do you agree? Disagree? Think his focus is wrong?

Lean vs Agile

refactr posted an good reminder about the roots of Lean (something we like at work):

Martin Fowler mentions that he has been asked whether a team should use agile development or lean development for a project. The answer is that they’re not alternatives. Lean development is a type of agile development.
