Friday!

* Did you know every cell phone has an email address? Yours will be @cingularme.com (Cingular) or @vtext.com (Verizon), or @tmomail.com (T-Mobile) depending on your carrier.
* Google as a calculator: I find I am often closer to a web browser than a calculator and so typing in the simple things like “15% of 125″ in Google will get helpful answers, but it is also good for cooking try “45 teaspoons in cups” http://www.google.ca/search?q=45+teaspoons+in+cups or perhaps you want to see what 2008 will be in roman numerals http://www.google.com/search?q=2008+in+roman+numerals more info on the Google Calculator @ http://www.google.com/help/calculator.html
* Looking for a cheap way to backup all of your photos and mp3 files? Amazon.com has a nice piece of software called Jungle Disk that can backup all of your data onto their S3 servers over the internet. It costs a scant 15¢ per gigabyte per month. http://www.jungledisk.com/

Friday is here, and here are a few links you might enjoy:

* Google can track what you search for and even though it seems big-brotherish, I have found it quite useful. Once you sign up, any search you do on Google will be tracked, and you can search through your searches (“What was the name of that coffee shop I looked up last weekend?”) To boot, it has some fun stats and trending so you can see when you do most of your googling (see picts below). http://www.google.com/searchhistory
* http://www.flickr.com is a “Web 2.0″ site that let’s you share photos. What I like most about it is that it is really easy: after I import photos from my camera, I drop a few in an email and send it to my flickr email address. The photos are then automatically posted to my page without ever needing to open a browser. You can also get the photos via a personal RSS feed, which is a nice touch. Picts of my kids are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/edstrom/
* So what is Web 2.0? Think web applications that get better the more they are used. Tim O’Reilly originally coined the term in 2004: “Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform. Chief among those rules is this: Build applications that harness network effects to get better the more people use them.” See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2

It’s Friday!

* This site pulls the news together in a very photo-centric way. It is very Web2.0-ish. http://www.daylife.com/highlights
* For those on the Retail side, Pivotal recently updated their web site, http://www.pivotal.com/ to use their parent company’s logo CDC instead of their traditional red/purple sphere. You will also notice the prominence of “Customer-Driven Company”, however the company “CDC” was, up until a year ago, called “China Dot Com”
* Google Sets, http://labs.google.com/sets give it a couple things alike, and it’ll give you more in that same “set”.

Good Day! The weekend is almost here!

* Don’t want to pay $1.50 for a 411 call on your cell? Use 800-FREE-411 (800-373-3411) – It is a “computer or human being looks up a number for you at no charge, once you’ve listened to a 20-second ad. It’s a classic time-for-money swap.”
* Want to look up some old news? Try Google’s News Archive Search @ http://news.google.com/archivesearch
* Looking for a better home email address? ? Try Gmail! It is Google’s easy, spam filtering, easy to search, free email program! http://www.google.com/mail/help/tour/start.html
