Something fun & techy for your Friday:

* Google on your phone: Did you know you could send a text message from your cellphone to 46645 (GOOGL) and receive weather, driving directions, movie times, local restaurants, dictionary, trivia answers, etc. See http://www.google.com/sms

* There are about 114k new viruses every year that affect Microsoft Windows. Given Apple’s market share, there proportionally should be 6k-12k new viruses on the Macintosh however since their OS X introduction 5 years ago there have been less than 5 viruses found.

* Google Alerts sends you updates via email when any new information or recent news articles are posted to the internet on a topic of your choice. I search on [companyname] and get email whenever we make it into a news piece (usually a couple times a week). See http://news.google.com/news?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf8&hl=en&q=%22CompanyName%22 for my exact search, and if you want to receive the updates automatically, click on “News Alerts” on the left side of the web site.

* Google News (news.google.com) is a great news-aggregation tool if you want a one-stop news shop. They bill themselves as a “computer-generated news site that aggregates headlines from more than 4,500 English-language news sources worldwide, groups similar stories together and displays them according to each reader’s personalized interests.”
